Edrick's Plaque at Guide Dogs Victoria

A Tribute To Edrick My First Guide Dog

The audio featured before and after the song, was recorded some four hours before Edrick was put to sleep in my arms and took his ride across the moon on September 9th, 2008.

Edrick little buddy,

From your heart emanated the light which lit up my path and allowed me to step forward confidently without fear of stumbling.

The light which gave me the freedom and desire to meet the every day challenges head on and in turn, break through boundaries that I discovered actually were never there but only in my mind..

Now your work is done so you lay down and rest as you let your heart light shine from among the stars, as the memory of you continues lighting up my path and whatever the future may have prescribed for me.

Thank you for your loyalty, faithfulness, protection, for breaking us out in laughter and looking after Cheyenne and myself.

WE WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS LITTLE BUDDY.

I couldn't have asked for a better keeper for my brother you are the best.

Thanks for everything and I'd never thought I'd say this but I'm going to miss that horrid breath and lethal wagging tail.

I had food on me. Or the time when you left your unfinished sandwich on the table and he would finish it for you. He was such a foodie... hmm.. I often wondered if he had any chinese in him?!

Edrick, when I first met you, Christmas 2006, I thought you looked like a big black bear. I loved to bury my fingers into your coat as you lay or sat beside me. I especially enjoyed our walks together, secretly sticking my chest out with pride as passers-by admired your majesty, even though you didn't belong to me.

I do miss those times we had together. I wish I could have known you for longer. Bless you dear Edrick.

Edrick, thank you for protecting all of us. I really enjoyed the last moments I spent with you. I know I will miss the fun we had together. I will especially miss snuggling up to you when I was feeling upset about something, you always made me feel better afterwards. I'm glad that we had you for a few extra years. I will always love you.

Edrick, thank you so much for always being there and looking after my family, you were such a friendly dog, you helped my uncle through a time when nobody else could have.I will always remember your big tail wagging and your stare every time you would see food. I'm going to miss you so much Edrick, but I know that you are still among us and still lighting our way. I love you Edrick, Rest In Peace Little Mate, you deserve a long, good rest!

As I read your page about Edrick I cried. Edrick seemed such a sweet dog. I didn't know him very well but he was such a loyal dog and in the pictures your family looked so happy with him. If you miss him he's not very far away, all you have to do is look out at the stars and talk to him, so if anything were to happen to you, then Edrick would be looking out for you and he will always be by your side!
